Couples Club

Couples and families enjoy a variety of fun activities and also provide support for school projects.

Friendship Club

Fun and fellowship for singles and couples.

Ladies Guild

This long-standing ladies’ fellowship group meets for a monthly luncheon/meeting and performs a number of services for the congregation as well as the larger Lutheran community.

Singles Group

Fellowship and Bible study are the main focus of this group.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

Congregation women meet quarterly to support mission concerns within the congregation, the District and the Synod.

Parent-Teacher League (PTL)

Supports the school by promoting family activities and educational presentations, sponsoring student programs, and conducting fundraisers which directly benefit the students and teachers.

Men’s Rec Basketball

Whether you’re young or not-so-young, you’re guaranteed a great time and a good workout at this weekly get-together.

Adult Volleyball

High skill level is not required; but a high fun level is promised at this weekly activity.

Fellowship Planning Committees

Short-term task forces, organized as needed to plan a variety of fellowship gatherings.

The following opportunities are offered to nurture our faith, increase our knowledge of the Bible, make applications to our daily life and encourage Christian fellowship and friendships:

Sunday morning between services
Wednesday morning from 7:00 – 8:00 am
Thursday morning from 9:30 – 11:00 am
Group home studies have a variety of times and topics
Women’s studies meet several times a week
Men’s study on Saturday mornings once a month

Head 2 Heart

Our method of teaching public school confirmation using computers, music and relationship connections to nurture and strengthen a faith relationship to Jesus. Would you like to help our young people not only know about Jesus, about God, about the church, about sin and grace, but know these as they relate to them personally? To find out more about the H2H ministry.

Treasure Seeker Time (Sunday School)

It is a special privilege to share your love of Jesus with children. Stories, music, videos, “Wiggle Church” – all used to make a connection with our Best Friend.

Vacation Bible School

An opportunity to work with our own children as well as an outreach ministry to community youngsters, sharing stories, music, crafts and refreshments five evenings in the summer.

Spiritual Gifts

           Encourage members to discover their unique gifts given from the Spirit to be used by God through them.

Evangelism

Contact and welcome visitors and prospective members, as well as encourage new members in this outreach ministry.

C.O.R.E.

Community Outreach Renewal Event committee that plans outreach events, concerts, speakers, seminars.

Cradle Roll

Mail devotional literature to new parents.

Special Ed Confirmation Teacher

Work with an individual with special needs to prepare them for confirmation.

When our Zion family gathers for a church service, it might surprise you how many people, in addition to the pastors and organist, make it possible for us to have a positive and enriching worship experience. From those who prepare the church, to those who ensure that the service runs smoothly and is a meaningful worship time, to those who encourage friendliness between the members present… they all play a part in offering a place where God’s love can be taught and shared.  If you are interested in any of these, please contact the church office and they will put you in touch with that group.

Serving Elder

Open and close the church, making sure the church is ready for service; assist the pastors with communion.

Scripture Reader

Read a portion of scripture at a service.

Greeter

Welcome people arriving for services with a smile, a welcome hand, and an offer of assistance to those with questions.

Usher

Teams greet and assist people with seating as they arrive for services, collect offerings, direct participants during communion and baptisms, and are available to meet any need that presents itself during the service.

Coffee Host/Hostess

Prepare and serve coffee during fellowship time between Sunday services.

Drama Group

Direct or participate in drama presentations at church services or special activities.

Videographer

Videotape special occasions and services.

Sound System

Operate the soundboard for church services.

New Member Corsages

Assist new members on Adult Confirmation Sundays.

Worship Planning Committee

Meet with the Pastors and Music Administrator to plan special services and celebrations.

Altar Guild

Teams prepare the altar and the surrounding worship area for weekend services.

Banner Making

Patterns are provided or you can use your own creativity to make the banners used in church and for special celebrations.

Bulletin Boards

Decorate the bulletin board in the narthex for holidays, special occasions, and to highlight new members.

Cookie Baking

Prepare treats for occasional special events at church.

Photographer/Digital Camera Operator

Photograph events at the church or school.

Publicity

Encourage community awareness by preparing and submitting news items to the Bay City Times.

Christmas Decorations

Get into the spirit of the season by helping put up the decorations for the Christmas celebration. Help is also appreciated after Epiphany to “undecorate!”

Baptismal Towelette Embroidery

For the celebration of a child’s baptism, a towel to be used during the baptism is embroidered with a cross and given to the parents as a special remembrance.

If you love to sing or play an instrument, you can choose from a variety of vocaland instrumental groups that enhance our worship services and special presentations.

Mixed Choir

Participates in services once a month and during special holiday celebrations.

Rock of Zion

Vocal and instrumental group that leads the Saturday contemporary service.

Handbell Choir

Rings at various services and special events.

Sounds of Praise Orchestra

Participates in services and special activities.

Music Ministry Choir

Participates in special occasion services and events.

Women’s Chorus

Sings in a service approximately every other month.

Men’s Chorus

Sings in a service approximately every other month.

Carillon Keeper

Our electronic system recreates the ringing songs projected from the bell tower. Training in operating the carillon will allow you to choose preset music selections and set performance times.

It is the natural extension of Christ’s love within us to offer that love through service to those around us whether within the church, the community, or beyond. These ministries give us the opportunity to do just that.

Blood Donor

You have the chance to give the gift of life by donating blood once or twice a year.

Correspondence Ministries

Remember individuals with cards, letters, devotional materials on birthdays, holidays, or just to let them know you’re thinking about them. Greeting cards are provided. Includes any of the following: Shut-Ins, New Members, Military Service Personnel, College Students

Thank You Notes from the Church Office

Acknowledge gifts and memorials from non-members.

Hope for Healing

Meets weekly to offer care, support, and fellowship for those who have experienced losses in their lives.

Food Pantry

Assist in preparing food bags for those in need, or help with the paperwork.

Postal Food Drive

Sort, carry, and transport food boxes for this annual drive.

Prayer Chain

Pray for those who request our support. Prayer requests are passed by phone.

Prayer Partner

Pray for, correspond and share your faith with a specific young person who is in their last year of confirmation class.

Quilt Making

You don’t have to be an expert seamstress to cut, machine sew, or hand tie a quilt for Lutheran World Relief.

Funeral Dinners/Desserts

At a time when someone really needs their church family, our teams prepare and serve a meal for family and friends after the funeral. Extra helping hands, as well as donated desserts, are always appreciated.

Grounds Maintenance at the Church and/or School

Weeding, trimming, planting, watering, mowing – there’s always room for one more on the teams that help to keep our church and school grounds “well-manicured.”

Christian Salvage Deliverer

Looking for a day’s outing? Once a year or so, someone is needed to drive a trunkful of devotional books to Fowlerville.

School Volunteers

A chance for parents, grandparents, or any congregation member who would like to help our children in a variety of ways: library, yearbook, school sign, computer room, office help, soup labels, fundraisers, small maintenance projects, classroom helpers, foreign language instructor.

Small Group/ChristCare Ministry

This is a trained group of individuals who develop small groups around a common purpose or focus to promote care and support.

Stephen Ministry

A trained Stephen Minister offers one-to-one care, understanding, and a listening ear to an individual in need of Christian care.

Economy Center Worker

Work with fellow Lutherans from area churches at our local Economy Center Re-sale Store sorting, pricing, and selling donated items.

TeleCARE

A newly developing ministry, phoning new members once a month, sharing information, prayers, concern and encouragement.

Parish Nurse Group

Members involved in health care fields join together to promote wholeness within the congregation by conducting health screenings and planning informational forums.

Deliver Tapes to Shut-Ins

Take a taped worship service to someone who is unable to attend church.

ChildCare

Supervise children for a short period of time while parents participate in church services, activities, or meetings.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Help pack food for families in need.

Christmas Caring Tree

Make someone’s Christmas a little brighter by sorting donated gifts.

Encouraging the youth of our congregation, as a part of the church today and in the future, is a valuable ministry within Zion Lutheran – one that is continually developed and strengthened. We are seeking people who will be active leaders of this much-needed mission.

Youth Leader/Service Project Leader

Become involved with the young people of our congregation, leading them in Bible study and fellowship as well as church and community service projects.

Scouting Leader

Help youngsters develop a strong sense of self-esteem and values through Christian leadership and mentoring.

Coach or Referee

Encourage young people at all levels and grades to participate in and enjoy the sports that are offered at our school.

A number of elected and appointed boards and committees are actively involved in the administration of the church and the school and in their ministries. Some church leaders are born and some are developed, but all have the heart and desire to make a difference in the life of the church – to make this place one where God’s ministries are carried out to His glory. If you have that wish in your heart, please consider one of the following opportunities to serve:

Church Administrative Board

Elected board that plans, coordinates, and supervises the church programs.

Administrative Board of Elders

Elected board that plans and directs the ministry programs of the church.

Christian Day School Committee

Plans, evaluates and directs educational ministries which serve all congregation children.

Properties Committee

Manages and maintains church and school properties.

Member Resources Committee

Develops and maintains assimilation procedures and a volunteer database for the purpose of making connections between people and ministries.

Christian Community Committee

Promotes the development of Christian community and fellowship.

Program Development Committee

Develops and promotes new programs within the church.

Finance Committee

Plans and directs the financial resources, records, and procedures.

Trust Fund

Manages the investment of trust assets.

Stewardship Drive Committee

Encourages members to serve with their time, talents, and treasures by planning and directing the annual stewardship campaign.

Church Photo Directory Committee

About every five years, we put together a new photo directory.

Treasurer

Elected position, supervises and maintains the financial books and issues accounting reports.

Auditor

Verifies the accuracy of financial recording and reporting.

Tellers/Recorders

Teams count and record weekly offerings.

Short-Term Task Force

Involves a short time commitment to accomplish a specific goal for a particular board or committee.

General Office Duties

Lots of opportunities for helping are available in the church office and many willing hands accomplish those tasks quickly. We are always looking for people who have a variety of skills: typing, computer skills, telephoning, assembling weekend bulletins and mailings, graphic arts, etc.

Church Historian

Looking for people who have an appreciation for history and the importance of organizing and maintaining historical records and materials.

Church Library

Encourages members to check out the many Christian books in the church library by maintaining and promoting its use.

Computer Technology/Church Website

People who are capable of helping with these technological tasks are in high demand.
